Bali ATV Quad Bike Ride

Jungle tracks, rice-field mud and the famous cave tunnel route

  • 5–7 hours including transfers
  • From IDR 750,000 per person
  • English & 日本語

About this tour

ATV riding is the most fun you can have in Bali while getting comprehensively filthy. You ride an automatic quad bike through jungle, along irrigation channels between rice paddies, through shallow rivers, under a waterfall and — on the best routes — straight through a hand-dug cave tunnel lit by lanterns.

No licence and no experience are needed. The quads are twist-and-go with a single brake lever, you get a 15-minute briefing, and a guide rides ahead of your group the whole way. Children from six can ride tandem behind a parent.

We arrange the quad park, the gear and the transfers, and your driver waits with the car and your dry clothes. Most people pair it with rafting or a swing in the afternoon, which is why we build the day around a morning slot.

What you will see

  • Cave tunnel route

The signature Bali ATV experience: riding through a long, cool, hand-carved tunnel with lantern-lit walls and carved stone reliefs before emerging back into the jungle. Worth choosing your operator specifically for.

  • Rice field and jungle track

Narrow raised tracks between working paddies, palm forest, bamboo groves and a couple of genuinely steep muddy climbs where the four-wheel drive earns its keep.

  • Waterfall pass-through

Ride directly under a small jungle waterfall — the cold-water moment that ends up in everybody’s video, and the point at which the mud starts washing off.

  • River crossings and mud pit

Shallow river sections and a dedicated mud track for anyone who wants the full experience. You will be soaked and covered; this is the fun part.

  • Tandem riding for families

One quad, two people, half the price. Parents drive with children behind, or couples take turns at the controls at the rest stop halfway round.

Sample itinerary

A guide, not a timetable. Your driver reshapes the order around the weather, the crowds and how you are feeling on the day.

  1. 07:30

    Hotel pickup

Morning pickup for the 09:00 riding slot — the coolest, driest and least crowded time on the track.

  2. 09:00

    Arrival and safety briefing

Welcome drink, registration, then helmet, gloves, boots and knee protection. A 15-minute briefing on throttle, brake and hand signals, plus a practice loop on flat ground.

  3. 09:30

    Ride out through the jungle

Set off in a small group behind a lead guide, with a sweeper at the back. First section is flat track to get comfortable with the quad.

  4. 10:15

    Cave tunnel and waterfall

The tunnel, the waterfall pass-through and a photo stop where the guides take pictures with your phone or a GoPro.

  5. 11:00

    Mud track and river crossing

The wet, messy final third. Ride as hard or as gently as you like — the guides adjust the pace to the group.

  6. 11:30

    Shower and buffet lunch

Hot showers, lockers and a change of clothes, then an Indonesian buffet lunch overlooking the valley.

  7. 13:00

    Optional second activity

Add Ayung river rafting, a jungle swing or a waterfall in the afternoon, or head back for a shower and a nap.

  8. 15:00

    Hotel drop-off

Back at your hotel or villa. Towels in the car and, if you asked, a cold drink waiting.

Honest advice from your driver

  • Bring a full change of clothes, a towel and a plastic bag for the wet ones. You are not getting slightly damp; you are getting soaked and muddy.
  • Wear closed shoes you do not care about, or use the operator’s boots. Flip-flops are not permitted on the track.
  • Contact lenses plus mud is a bad combination — wear glasses under the visor or bring goggles.
  • A chest-mounted GoPro is far better than trying to film one-handed. Phone in a waterproof pouch at minimum.
  • Book the 09:00 slot. The track is drier, the light is better and the afternoon rain in the wet season usually arrives after 14:00.

Good to know

ATV Ride — frequently asked questions

The questions our guests ask most about this trip, answered honestly rather than optimistically.

Do I need a driving licence or previous experience for the ATV ride?

No. The quads are fully automatic — twist the throttle to go, squeeze the lever to stop. You get a briefing and a practice loop before setting off, and a guide leads your group the whole way. Most first-timers are comfortable within five minutes.

What is the minimum age, and can children ride?

Children from about six years old can ride tandem as a passenger behind an adult. To drive a quad alone, operators generally require you to be 16 or older. There is no upper age limit as long as you can sit comfortably and squeeze a brake lever.

How muddy will I actually get?

Very. Between the river crossings, the waterfall and the mud track, expect to be soaked through and coated from the knees down, often head to toe. That is the whole point. Bring a complete change of clothes — there are hot showers and lockers at the finish.

Is ATV riding in Bali safe?

It is an adventure activity, so there is inherent risk, but serious injuries are rare on guided routes. You wear a helmet, gloves and knee protection, speeds are modest, guides ride front and back, and the tracks are maintained. The most common injury is a bruise from clipping a bank. Ride within your comfort level and follow the guide’s hand signals.

Single or tandem quad — which should we choose?

Tandem is cheaper and fine for couples and parents with children, and you can swap driver at the halfway rest stop. Single quads are better if you both want to ride properly, as the tandem quad is heavier and slower on the steep muddy climbs. Confident riders should take singles.

Can we combine ATV with rafting or a swing on the same day?

Yes, and it is our most popular combination. ATV at 09:00, lunch, then Ayung river rafting or a jungle swing in the afternoon, back at your hotel by around 17:00. One car, one driver, one fixed price for the day.

What happens if it rains?

ATV runs in the rain — the track is wet anyway and riding in a warm tropical shower is genuinely fun. Operators pause only for thunderstorms or when a river section becomes unsafe, and will reschedule your slot or refund the ride if that happens.

Are glasses, phones and valuables a problem on the track?

Lockers are provided at the base, and we strongly recommend using them for wallets, passports and anything electronic you cannot waterproof. Glasses are fine under a visor. If you want photos, use a strap-mounted action camera or hand your phone to the guide, who will ride ahead and film you.

How do I book, and do I have to pay a deposit?

Send a WhatsApp message to +62 852 3773 9888 with your date, hotel or villa area, number of passengers and the tour you want. You get a fixed quote back, usually within 15 minutes. No deposit and no credit card are needed — you pay the driver in cash or by bank transfer on the day of the trip.

Do your drivers really speak English and Japanese?

Yes. Every driver speaks conversational English, and we have drivers who speak Japanese (日本語対応). Japanese-speaking drivers are a smaller team, so please mention it when you book so we can reserve the right person for your date.

Is hotel or villa pickup included, and which areas do you cover?

Pickup and drop-off are included from Kuta, Legian, Seminyak, Canggu, Jimbaran, Nusa Dua, Sanur, Denpasar and Ubud. Pickups from Uluwatu, Amed, Candidasa, Lovina or Munduk are possible with a small surcharge for the extra distance — just ask when you book.

What happens if it rains or my flight is delayed?

Bali rain usually passes within an hour, so we simply reorder the stops and wait it out somewhere dry rather than cancel. For airport pickups we track your flight number and wait free of charge if you land late. Cancelling for genuine bad weather or a missed flight carries no fee.
